Congratulations to Brian Cooke, MD and Gary Kanter, MD! They have completed the 2017 College of Medicine Leadership Development Program (LDP). The LDP is designed for College of Medicine faculty who are current leaders at the level of Division Chief or equivalent. The program’s overall objective is to improve the leadership capability of program participants by focusing on key competencies. These competencies are categorized in four quadrants— Build Trust, Create and Communicate Vision, Generate Alignment, Cultivate Talent.
The College of Medicine Leadership Development Program is now accepting applications for the 2018 class. The application deadline is Friday, December 8, 2017 at 5:00 pm. For information on how to apply please contact the Department of Psychiatry Chair’s Office at 352-294-4900.
The COM Leadership Development Program was a great opportunity to improve my leadership abilities and meet an array of faculty members from across the College. It was helpful to participate with our non-psychiatric colleagues, learning from the challenges they have faced in their own divisions. Some of the highlighted activities over the year include creating “elevator speeches,” reviewing 360-degree assessments, learning about finances, and meeting with the COM Dean and Senior Associate Deans.
