Message from the Training Director

Welcome to our website. The University of Florida Division of Psychology offers a one-year training program to those who have a doctoral degree from an APA- or CPA-accredited program in Clinical, School, or Counseling Psychology, or expected graduation from such a program before our start date. Our program is APPIC accredited and follows the APPIC universal notification deadline. We are recruiting for six positions across three specialty tracks: Autism Assessment & Intervention; OCD, Anxiety & Related Disorders; and Parent Child Interaction Therapy & Childhood Disruptive Behavior.

Our program promotes a culture of respect and professionalism. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds. We prepare postdocs according to guidelines recommended by the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). We have regular seminars and open discussions regarding diversity, culture, social determinants of health, neurodivergence, disability rights advocacy, and racial disparities. Work-life balance is maintained by maintaining an 8am to 5pm schedule. Our Office for Accessibility and Gender Equity is committed to making our programs accessible to all.

Our patient population is varied geographically, racially, and socioeconomically. We serve a large catchment area including much of north and central Florida as well as south Georgia. Our specialty intensive outpatient OCD program has an even further reach. Our clinic serves a wide range of presenting concerns, though our specialty postdoc training programs were designed to target areas of particularly high need for expert providers. We believe these programs will serve underrepresented populations and give the postdoc highly marketable skills for their next positions.

Building on the resources of the Department of Psychiatry, the Division of Psychology offers a diverse faculty, a comprehensive didactic curriculum, and modern inpatient and outpatient clinical facilities. Our program produces graduates who are clinically astute, academically well-rounded, have strong professional values, and are ready to assume successful leadership roles in our field.

We are especially proud of the multidisciplinary environment created by being located in the Department of Psychiatry. Our postdocs will routinely interact with psychology trainees of all levels as well as psychiatry residents and child adolescent psychiatry fellows. Our trainees are equal members of the treatment team and work collaboratively with the medical providers. Additionally, our faculty have varied academic backgrounds including clinical, counseling, and neuropsychology as well as applied behavioral analysis. Our faculty throughout the department are recognized experts in their field and actively engaged in research and continuing education training. Postdocs will have many opportunities to interact with faculty both formally and informally and clinical schedules have been kept lighter to allow for more education time.

After graduation, the majority of our postdocs take on patient-facing roles including faculty in academic medical settings, program directors or clinical supervisors, private or group practice, or staff psychologists. They have been competitive applicants nationally and many postdocs have taken positions outside of Florida after graduation. Please see the Meet Our Graduates page for more information.

Thank you for considering our program!
