We have seven faculty members who are all licensed psychologists in the State of Florida and provide supervision to post-doctoral fellows, psychology interns, mental health counseling interns, and psychology graduate students. We also have one licensed mental counselor who is a qualified supervisor for registered mental health interns in the State of Florida. All supervisors are located on-site in the outpatient clinic.

Joseph McNamara, PhD
Dr. McNamara is the Division Chief for the Division of Psychology within the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. McNamara is a nationally-recognized expert in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the use of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) across the lifespan. He is the co-director of the Florida Exposure and Anxiety Research (FEAR) Lab. Dr. McNamara has also been recognized as an outstanding teacher and mentor many times over. He has served on numerous masters’ and dissertation committees, and received departmental awards for clinical supervision and teaching.
Megan Barthle-Herrera, PhD, PMH-C
Dr. Barthle-Herrera is the Director of Services and clinical supervisor for the OCD, Anxiety, and Related Disorders Psychotherapy Clinic as part of the UF OCD Program. Dr. Barthle-Herrera is a nationally-recognized expert in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the use of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) across the lifespan. She is a certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor and has particular interest and expertise in perinatal OCD. Additionally, she is a certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) therapist with expertise in treating disruptive behavior disorders in children aged 2-7. Dr. Barthle-Herrera has received departmental awards for clinical supervision and teaching.
Matt Daley, PhD
Dr. Daley is the Director of Graduate Student Training in the Division of Psychology. Additionally, he is the Director of Services for the Brief CBT for Psychiatric Inpatient Care program. This program provides evidence based psychotherapy for individuals hospitalized at the UF Health Psychiatric Hospital, providing much needed care as well as unique training opportunities. Dr. Daley also has specialty training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He supervises an adolescent DBT group and an ERP group for individuals with hoarding disorder.
Ms. DeSalvo is the Training Director of the Registered Mental Health Internship in the Division of Psychology. She has over 15 years of experience as a marriage and family counselor and has worked in a variety of settings before joining us at UF. She is leading the development and growth of the Division of Psychology’s training of counselors, ensuring education in evidence-based interventions while fostering on the unique perspectives of counselors.
Andrea Guastello, PhD
Dr. Guastello is the Director of Postdoctoral Training in the Division of Psychology and co-director of the Florida Exposure and Anxiety Research (FEAR) Lab. Dr. Guastello provides evidenced-based psychotherapy and psychoeducational assessment services across the lifespan. Her areas of expertise are in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for the treatment of childhood disruptive behaviors, and adaptations of these interventions for neurodiverse individuals, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She has received departmental awards for her clinical supervision and teaching.
Carol Lewis, PhD, MPH, CPH
Dr. Lewis is a clinical psychologist with more than 30 years of experience. She supervises trainees across all level of training. Dr. Lewis’ expertise includes the treatment of chronically suicidal, self-injurious individuals, using skills-based methods, as well as the treatment of trauma with EMDR. She is trained in several mindfulness-based treatment protocols and runs an adult Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) group. She is heavily involved in the community and, for many years, has worked with the University of Florida’s Mobile Outreach Clinic, a bus-based clinic providing no-cost healthcare to underserved populations in Gainesville, Florida.
Cheryl McNeil, PhD
Dr. McNeil obtained her Ph.D. in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at UF in 1989 and is excited to be conducting research at her alma mater. She has a line of research studies examining the efficacy of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Teacher Child Interaction Training (TCIT) across a variety of settings and populations, including over 150 research articles and chapters related to the importance of intervening early with young children displaying a range of mental health concerns. Dr. McNeil is a Global Trainer for PCIT International and has disseminated PCIT worldwide. Dr. McNeil works in PCIT and related approaches, provides training and consultation services at Springhill 2, and teaches psychology postdocs, registered mental health interns, and psychology graduate students while promoting the research, educational, and clinical mission of the Department of Psychiatry.
Melissa Munson, PhD
Dr. Munson joined the Division of Psychology as an Assistant Professor in 2016. She received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University following an internship at UF in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. She then completed her post-doctoral fellowship in the Division of Psychology before joining the faculty. She currently directs the eating disorders program and co-directs the psychoeducational assessment clinic. Her other clinical responsibilities include the evaluation and treatment of child and adult psychological problems with a specialization in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders. She supervises psychiatry medical residents, graduate, students and interns in conducting psychoeducational assessments.
Melanie Nelson, PhD
Dr. Nelson is the Psychology Internship Training Director for the Division of Psychology, as well as the director of the Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) program. She is internationally recognized for her work in PCIT and is one of less than twenty-five Certified Global Trainers world-wide. Clinically, she specializes in assessment of and treatment for families with young children, ages 2 to 8, who have a wide range of concerns, including disruptive behavior, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Regilda “Rea” Romero, PhD
Dr. Romero is the Director of Services for the UF Health Psychoeducational and Neuropsychological Assessment Services. She has over 15 years of clinical experience with expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Dr. Romero is a part of the UF Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment (CAN) and has worked tirelessly to increase patient access to assessment and Autism related services. She supervises graduate students, psychology interns, and postdocs in complex neuropsychological assessments and comprehensive autism diagnostic evaluations. She had contributed many research articles, presentations, and book chapters related to ASD, with particular focus on multicultural considerations.
