Doctoral Internship Program Program Overview
Goal: The primary goal of the internship program is to prepare doctoral interns to function as postdoctoral fellows or early career psychologists in health service psychology working with a range of populations and in a range of settings with a focus on professional, ethical, interdisciplinary, and evidence-based care.
Objectives
In line with the Standard of Accreditation for Health Service Psychology, our program is an organized training program that aims to train doctoral interns to demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Research
- Ethical and legal standards
- Individual and cultural diversity
- Professional values, attitudes and behaviors
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Assessment
- Intervention
- Supervision
- Consultation and interprofessional/interdisciplinary skills
Accreditation Status
An application for Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) membership has been submitted, and we are awaiting a decision. Please be advised that there is no assurance that we will be able to successfully achieve APPIC membership. The program is not accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
Requirements for Successful Completion
The following are required for completion of the internship program:
- 12 months of the program
- At least 2,000 hours from internship
- Minimum level of achievement: 100% competencies at a “ready for independent practice” (Level 5) on the evaluation form
A certificate of completion (Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology) is provided at the successful completion of the internship program.
