About Shixie "Max" Jiang

Dr. Jiang graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in biology and received his MD from the University of Central Florida. He completed his general psychiatry residency training at the University of South Florida and his fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry (critical care psychiatry track) at Stanford University.

His clinical interests include neuropsychiatry, critical care psychiatry, delirium, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, catatonia, transplant psychiatry, depression in the medically ill, and neuromodulation techniques. His research focuses on the application of optical neuroimaging and neuromodulation technologies in neuropsychiatric disorders.

He leads the Delirium Neurorecovery Lab at the University of Florida. His research program centers on the development and application of portable optical neuroimaging and neuromodulation technologies to study delirium due to acute medical and critical illness and its long-term cognitive and neuropsychiatric consequences. A central focus of his work is investigating the relationship between delirium and subsequent neurodegeneration, particularly the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. His goal is to advance objective, brain-based tools to detect, prognosticate, and intervene upon delirium as a potentially modifiable risk factor for long-term cognitive decline.

Dr. Jiang works with the inpatient consultation-liaison psychiatry team at the UF Health Shands Hospital. His predominant area of focus is the intensive care units where he serves as the critical care psychiatry liaison.
