About Jill A Star

Dr. Star is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her training includes the completion of a Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology, an Internship in Clinical and Health Psychology, and a Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship. Over the course of her training, Dr. Star received an array of clinical experiences in a variety of settings, such as counseling centers, community-based mental health centers, psychiatric outpatient facilities, hospitals, and substance-abuse treatment centers. She has worked with patients ranging in age from 19 months to 81 years old and presenting with various psychiatric diagnoses and life stressors. Dr. Star has received specialty training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure-Response Therapy (ERT). Dr. Star currently provides personality assessment and psychological treatment for dual-diagnoses at the UF Health Florida Recovery Center. She is qualified to teach Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), therapeutic treatment of anxiety disorder, therapeutic treatment of depression, psychotherapy, and supervision.

Research Profile

Dr. Star’s primary research focuses in on psychosocial factors related to substance use disorders. She is particularly interested in psychosocial factors and personality factors that impact the treatment of substance use disorders. She is also interested in examining the impact and treatment of dual-diagnoses within the substance abuse populations.
