NAVIGATE is a comprehensive program designed to provide early and effective treatment to individuals who have experienced a first episode of psychosis. It was developed with support from NIMH and has been implemented at over 60 sites throughout the U.S. as well as in Canada and Israel. NAVIGATE teams have served urban, suburban, and rural populations, and have provided treatment to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Numerous studies have demonstrated that compared to individuals who receive basic care for psychosis (medication alone), those receiving care through NAVIGATE or other first episode psychosis treatment programs tend to report having a higher quality of life, better control of their psychiatric symptoms, more engagement in work and school, and to have had fewer hospitalizations; and for many individuals, these positive findings increase even further years after their engagement in programs like NAVIGATE!
