Dr. Kent Mathias, an assistant professor of psychiatry and addiction at the University of Florida College of Medicine, noted that reversing isotonitazene overdoses with Narcan is challenging outside of a hospital, often requiring higher doses than standard kits provide—doses that most first responders or the public don’t carry.

**NEW** MBI Accelerator Program
The McKnight Brain Institute (MBI) is pleased to announce its new annual Accelerator Program, offering seed funding to support novel and impactful research projects that align with our mission to enhance lives through neuroscience and neuromedicine research.
Seeking: innovative proposals with strong potential for scientific impact and future extramural funding, submissions aimed at addressing reviewer comments from previously unfunded applications (e.g., R01) that require additional experiments for resubmission and proposals that foster collaborative research across laboratories, departments, and colleges.
The MBI will fund up to 6 meritorious applications. Awards may vary in size up to $50,000 each with a maximum 1-year duration.

McElroy Young Adult Psychiatry Lecture Fund
The Ross and Linda Provus McElroy Fund was established to support the expenses of hosting an annual lecture featuring a visiting psychiatry lecturer who focuses on mental healthcare needs, particularly those of young adults and college-aged students.
This fund honors Ross A. McElroy, M.D., a distinguished educator in psychoanalytic therapy, and Linda Provus McElroy, Ph.D., a Clinical Supervisor with a longstanding commitment to young adult mental health. Together, they exemplify a dedication to compassionate and ethical psychotherapy. Preference is given to topics approved for continuing mental education credit.

Congratulations to Zach Simon, PhD candidate in Dr. Marcelo Febo's lab, for placing second at the Whitney Lab's 8th Annual Science by the Shore Symposium lighting talk. Zach presented his research on the effects of humanized APOE4 on behavior and functional connectivity in mice.

The 2024 Flu Campaign has officially begun! Our Occupational Health Services team will be in the UF Health Shands Hospital Atrium this week from 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Be sure to stop by to get your flu shot and become a #UFHealthFluMVP. We strongly encourage faculty, staff, and volunteers supporting patient care programs to get vaccinated and wear this year’s green badge sticker. The deadline to get your flu shot is Oct. 31. If you receive a flu vaccination from a provider outside of UF Health Shands Occupational Health Services, or the UF Student Health Care Center, please remember to submit proof of vaccination to update your Occupational Health file and receive your sticker.
