Exploring Unconscious Bias in Academic Medicine – (30 mins) Explore how and why diversity efforts plateau at institutions, what role unconscious bias plays in these situations, and discuss how to mitigate unconscious bias to increase the success of diversity initiatives.
The Hidden Curriculum in Academic Medicine: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity – (37 mins) A discussion on how the hidden curriculum in academic medicine influences the sexual and gender minority health education of medical students, residents, and allied health professionals as well as the institutional culture and climate for sexual and gender minorities.
Understanding Unconscious Bias in the Health Professions and How to Mitigate It – (1 hour) Mitigating bias to improve individual and collective decision-making abilities by recognizing when bias may be playing a negative role.
Unconscious Bias in Medicine (CME credits, 1 hour) – This CME activity provides education on unconscious bias in the academic medicine workplace. Existing research on unconscious bias will provide a science-based view of this seemingly non-science topic. Case studies with examples of unconscious bias, self-assessment opportunities, and exploring bias busting strategies will enable learners to understand how to bring the content into their own unique environments.

An online game about poverty and the challenges it brings forth for each and every person. Throughout the game, players make series of decision which impacts their income. Each decision is connected to different dilemma and problem tied to the health, the level of education and providing the basic needs for your family members. Often there is no “good” solution to issue at hand, which for some, might raise the level of frustration. At the same time, thanks to such model of the game, everyone can gain the better understanding of the everyday struggles of people struck with poverty and homelessness.
The game ends when players either run out of money before the end of the month or make it through with money left over.
Hidden Bias Tests measure unconscious, or automatic, biases. Your willingness to examine your own possible biases is an important step in understanding the roots of stereotypes and prejudice in our society. Here you will have the opportunity to assess your conscious and unconscious preferences for different topics such as race, gender, and religion. Each session takes 10 – 15 mins to complete.
