This program empowers medical students to recognize faculty and residents who foster supportive, respectful, and positive learning environments during their clinical education. Honorees are celebrated for embodying the College of Medicine’s commitment to excellence in patient care, mentorship, and creating a culture that elevates everyone around them.

Medical students praised Dr. Bentley, saying, “Dr. Bentley demonstrated compassion and patience toward all of her patients and treated everyone she cared for with dignity and respect. She is a wonderful example of how to incorporate humanism into the practice of medicine.”

Students also recognized Dr. Franks, writing, “Dr. Franks went out of his way to teach medical students even on busy days. He took the time to mentor us and provide helpful critique that is unique for many residents, especially given how busy it is.”

We are proud to also celebrate Dr. Lauren Schmidt, whose commitment to mentorship, education, and fostering a positive learning environment exemplifies the values recognized through this initiative. Students shared, “Dr. Schmidt is an exceptional clerkship coordinator who consistently prioritizes the needs and success of her students. She creates an environment where learners feel both supported and challenged, striking a thoughtful balance that promotes growth and confidence. Her responsiveness to the needs of her students is unparalleled. She not only listens attentively but also actively implements meaningful changes and accommodations that enhance the overall educational experience. She truly cares for the students she serves.”

Thank you to all three honorees for your dedication to our learners, your patients, and the future of psychiatry. Your leadership and commitment to creating meaningful educational experiences make our department and our Gator community greater.
