A Meaningful Gift Honoring Dr. Ross McElroy

The department recently gathered for a special lunch honoring Dr. Linda Provus-McElroy to express our gratitude for her generous donation of artwork from her late husband, Dr. Ross McElroy’s collection. Dr. McElroy was a beloved former faculty member in our department.

The event included a walkthrough of the suite to view the seven donated pieces, during which Linda shared personal stories and memories connected to the artwork and Dr. McElroy’s life. Over lunch, conversations reflected on both Dr. McElroy and Linda’s careers in psychiatry, the evolution of mental health treatment over the decades, and their early work together at a state-funded hospital in Washington D.C. serving individuals with severe and long-term psychiatric illnesses.

The artwork, now displayed throughout the chair’s office at the McKnight Brain Institute, serves as a meaningful tribute to Dr. McElroy’s legacy and a reminder of the lasting impact both he and Linda have had on the field of psychiatry and the UF community. We are deeply grateful to Linda for sharing these pieces and the stories behind them with us.
