We would like to take this opportunity to welcome the new Faculty and Staff that have joined the department.

New Faculty

Welcome Dr. Jo

Welcome Dr. Young Jo to his new position as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Jo will provide psychiatric consult-liaison services to patients at UF Health Shands Hospital primarily focusing on the child and adolescent population. He received both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami and completed general psychiatry residency training at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, prior to joining University of Florida for a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. His research interest includes clinical use of digital psychiatry and psycho-oncology.


Welcome Dr. Patel

Welcome to Dr. Raj Patel, who is an assistant professor in Psychiatry at the University of Florida and an outpatient attending in the Adult Outpatient Clinic and the UF Student Healthcare Center. Dr. Patel received his medical degree at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine after completing an accelerated undergraduate degree at USF.

During his time in medical school and residency training, Dr. Patel took a particular interest in working with young adults, as well as in educating future generations of physicians. During medical school he was involved in multiple educational committees and continued to remain involved in educating medical students throughout his residency training.

Dr. Patel has special expertise and passion in treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, and eating disorders. He prefers to integrate both medication and therapy into treatment plans and into each clinic visit.


New Staff

Aubrey Bonsal

Welcome to Aubrey Bonsal, who is the new Administrative Specialist to the Department Chair.

Aubrey joined the University of Florida in February 2020 as an administrative specialist in the Dean’s Office of the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP). She assisted several deans, was the administrative coordinator for the college’s re-accreditation, helped with marketing and events, and provided support to the Master of Public Health program. She was PHHP’s 2021 Employee of the Year and a 2022 Superior Accomplishment Award Division 5 winner. Before coming to UF, Aubrey filled administrative and managerial roles at surgical practices in the Gainesville area.

In her spare time she loves reading, going to concerts, and finding new recipes to try.


Welcome to our new Child Psychiatry Fellowship Program Coordinator, David Roberts. David has worked in the department for over five years with Dr. Mathews and comes with extensive department and institutional knowledge. We are so excited to have David on board in the Education Division and I hope you all welcome him when you see him.
