Dr. Rahmani on Task Force on Involuntary Examination of Minors

University of Florida Department of Psychiatry Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Mariam Rahmani, MD is part of a Task Force on Involuntary Examination of Minors. Dr. Rahmani is the only Child Psychiatrist on the task force.

The purpose of the Task Force is to comply with statutory requirements of Chapter 2017-151 Laws of Florida, which mandates the creation of a task force to address the involuntary Baker Act examination of minors.

The task force is required to:

  • Analyze data on the initiation of involuntary examinations of children
  • Research the root causes of any trends in such involuntary examinations
  • Identify and evaluate options for expediting examinations for children
  • Identify recommendations for encouraging alternatives to and eliminating inappropriate initiations of such examinations.

The task force will submit a report of its findings to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives on or before November 15, 2017.
