Vero Beach Faculty and Staff

The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (DCAP) currently offers a one-year, non-ACGME accredited Child Psychiatry-focused fellowship at the UF-Vero Beach site (The Center for Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine at Vero Beach).

Vero Beach UF Psychiatry Clinic

Vero Beach UF Psychiatry Clinic

This relatively new site is led by Dr. Wayne Creelman (McCabe Eminent Scholar and Professor) with a focus towards Community Psychiatry.

Fellows at that site will work with a Child Psychiatrist and Clinical Psychologist (Peter Gold, PsyD) to gain experience in treating major childhood mental illnesses:

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • Learning Disorders
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Depressive Disorders
  • Mood Disorders
  • Psychotic Disorders
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

This fellowship is best suited for primary care physicians (Family Medicine or Pediatricians) who have completed their general training in their specialties, but would like a focused exposure on treating mental illnesses.

This fellowship is ideal for the primary care physician who will be working in more rural areas and who ultimately see themselves as the primary physician for a population with limited mental health referral access.

Fellows will learn a wide breadth of pediatric psychopharmacology, be exposed to various therapy modalities and become familiar and comfortable with the basics of supportive and cognitive therapy.

Didactic seminars will be shared weekly via Skype with DCAP seminars at UF-Gainesville. The fellow will have direct on-site supervision with a Child Psychiatrist and Clinical Psychologist.

Case supervision with DCAP UF-Gainesville faculty is also offered. There is opportunity to observe psychological and psycho-educational testing.

Though the fellowship is focused on childhood mental illnesses, there is also flexibility to work with Adult Psychiatrists in seeing and treating adult psychiatric mental illnesses.
