Thank you and best of luck as you seek to find your perfect match…it may be here.

Please take a minute to read a message from our program director and thank you for visiting!

Welcome From The Program Director

Jacqueline A. Hobbs, M.D., Ph.D.

Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Florida College of Medicine. You have the ability to choose from many exciting fields following your medical degree, and we are excited that you have selected the field of psychiatry. Whether your curiosity stems from that of a physician providing the best care to your patient, involvement in nationally acclaimed research, or mentorship and education from renowned psychiatrists, our program weaves each of these pieces together during your 4 years of training. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to sharing their strengths, mentorship, leadership and assistance as you seek to pursue your career.

Gainesville is a spectacular city nestled in the heart of Florida and recently voted one of the most livable cities in the country. There is a wonderful night life, nurturing atmosphere for families as well as leading sports teams for all fanatics… Go Gators!

Residency is both intellectually rigorous and challenging; however UF also prides itself in attaining a flexible, personal, and supportive atmosphere for its residents. Residents dedicate their PGY 2 year to an outpatient setting while taking call once a week. PGY 2 year balanced with PGY 1 and 3 years empowers each resident to step into the role of functioning independently, developing skills and judgment on an individual basis. Faculty serve as role models mentoring residents both clinically as well as through didactic sessions specific to your level of training. The final year of residency is primarily dedicated to elective time offering a vast arena of opportunities for those choosing a career in academic medicine, community psychiatry or pursing a fellowship. UF provides exceptional fellowship training to residents who elect to remain in Gainesville and pursue careers in Forensic Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Public Psychiatry.

Our department fosters excellence beginning at the resident level where education is the forefront. We invite you to join us in this pursuit as we strive to mentor and guide you in becoming leaders of our field!

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Hobbs, M.D., Ph.D.
