Description

The interaction between Medicine and the Law is vast, complicated, and very interesting. This course goes into select topics in detail, including issues that will affect you or a member of your immediate family. The right to die, drug and alcohol laws, and not guilty by reason of insanity are some of the topics addressed. Students will have an opportunity to share their opinions with same groups. Completing assignments in a timely fashion and taking advantage of ample opportunities for extra credit will lead one to doing quite well in the course.

Description

Building on the knowledge learned in MEL 4011, MEL 4012 allows each student to shadow a doctor in various fields of medicine, such as psychiatry, OGBYN, surgery, etc. Students will be a behind the scenes look at what a day in the life of a practicing doctor entails. This class is a great CV builder and a way to get great hands-on experience in the medical profession as an undergraduate. Student’s grades are based on a few essays and quizzes, as well as a “professionalism” grade rated by the doctor being shadowed. Students who have completed/are in the process of completing 4011 must submit an application to be accepted into 4012. After completing 4011 and 4012, students will have the opportunity to become a volunteer TA for the MEL classes and subsequently earn a letter of recommendation.
