Dr. Dizney, Clinical Director, of the UF&Shands Eating Disorders Recovery Center (EDRC) presented with Kevin Wandler, MD at Grand Rounds on November 30, 2012 on “Anorexia Nervosa: Evaluation, Intervention, and Treatment”. The lecture covered the first of the two major sections for MEL 4600. At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to:

Cite knowledge on the specific screening questions to identify a patient with an Eating Disorder and the DSM-IV criteria for Eating Disorders.

Describe findings on physical and laboratory examination in patients with Eating Disorders.

State the criteria for hospital admission for patients with Eating Disorders.

Here at the University of Florida we have a 100% online course, MEL 4600 Diseases of Eating (open to the public during the summer term), which is directed at the theorized relationship between pathological eating and addiction. Important course topics include pediatric and adult obesity; as well as anorexia, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. The various options for treatment; such as medications, psychotherapy, and surgical interventions, are described. The course is divided up into two major sections:

1.) Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, and related disorders

2.) Obesity and Food Addition.
