The Department of Psychiatry held its third annual movie night during Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) at the Hippodrome in downtown Gainesville on October 5th. As part of activities scheduled for MIAW the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida screens a movie which focuses on mental illness followed by a discussion moderated by a faculty member from the department.

This year they screened the HBO documentary WARNING: This Drug May Kill You. This film is told from the point of view of four families affected by the deadly opioid crisis. The event was moderated by UF Addiction Medicine Faculty Jason Hunt, MD and Addiction Medicine Fellow Charles Smith, DO.  Dr. Hunt opened the program by providing a brief overview of the opioid crisis currently affecting the nation.  Following the screening of the film Dr. Hunt and Dr. Smith took questions from the audience.

Prior to the event, attendees browsed the display of the Christensen Ethics Curriculum Puzzle Art Project and tables from local organizations with information on treatment programs and where to find help.
